For Every Useless Word: Speaking As With Words From God 2nd Lenten Sermon of Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, OFM (Cap) Preacher of the Pontifical Household Text of English Translation
In the course of my daily work, I read reports, essays, theses, learned publications, etcetera, etcetera. Quite apart from the poor grammar, the one thing that riles me is the failure of the author to organize his/her thoughts to argue his/her case. Because of the haphazardous flow of ideas, frequent repetitions and redundancies are the norm. The end result is a laborious read trying to second guess the author's intentions.
This second sermon by the Preacher of the Pontifical Household is a stark reminder to us all that words cut both ways. The word of God never returns to Him without first achieving its purpose. We must strive to be as perfect as the word of God in our speech and writing.
